Glo in trouble, as APCON bans ‘Glo Link Your NIN’ advert featuring Osas Igbodaro

A Glo dial *109# Link Your NIN commercial featuring a female model, Osas Igbodaro, has been flagged by the monitoring team of the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria, APCON.

In a statement issued by the APCON helmsman, Olalekan Fadolapo, the campaign which was caused to be exposed by Globalcom Limited is currently being aired on some TV stations and social media platforms targeted at the Nigerian market and eliciting complaints about the exposure of the model’s cleavage.

The statement reads further; “The advertisement was neither submitted nor approved for exposure by the Advertising Standards Panel (ASP), the statutory body charged with the responsibility of ensuring that advertisements conform with the prevailing laws of the federation as well as the code of ethics of Advertising in Nigeria.”

APCON noted that it has written to the management of Globalcom Limited to stop further exposure of the advertisement/commercial on all media platforms (broadcast and social media.

According to the agency, “We have also written to media stations and the relevant government agencies in this regard.

“APCON is committed to ensuring that the advertising ecosystem is sanitized and shall use all lawful means including causing the prosecution of violators of the Advertising laws of the federation.”
